Legal disclaimerThis tool is provided by Zipments.io for general informational purposes only and does not constitute legal, customs, trade, or professional advice. Results are generated by automatically matching the HS codes you enter against published government tariff measures, and may be incomplete, out of date, or inaccurate. Tariff rules change frequently and their application depends on facts specific to your goods, their origin, and their proper classification.Nothing in this tool creates an attorney-client, customs broker-client, or other professional relationship between you and Zipments.io. A result of "restricted", "flagged" or "not flagged" is not a determination of admissibility or of your duty liability, and correct tariff classification remains your responsibility as the importer of record.Calculation basis and currency. The declared value used in the example is illustrative only. It is expressed without a currency and no exchange rate is applied. In practice, surtax is assessed on the value for duty determined under sections 45 to 55 of the Customs Act, in Canadian dollars, converted at the rate in effect on the date of direct shipment — so figures shown here may not match an actual accounting entry. The order of calculation applied by this tool is: customs duty on the declared value; surtax on the declared value; and GST on the total of value, duty and surtax. Duty and surtax are calculated in parallel on the same base — surtax is not applied on top of duty.As at the date of the last deployment of this tool, CBSA had not published specific accounting instructions for the counter-tariffs effective September 8, 2026. The method above follows the guidance issued for the March 2025 United States Surtax Order. It may change when CBSA publishes, and results generated before that date should be re-checked.GST/HST. The GST figure shown is a flat 5% calculated on the value for duty plus any applicable duty and surtax, and illustrates the standard case only. This tool does not determine the GST status of your goods from their tariff classification. It does not identify goods that are zero-rated, exempt, or non-taxable on importation — including many basic groceries, prescription drugs, medical and assistive devices, and certain agricultural and fishing inputs. It does not apply provincial HST or PST. It does not reflect input tax credits: a GST/HST registrant importing goods for use in a commercial activity can generally recover the GST paid at the border, so the "total payable" figure overstates the net cost for most commercial importers. Determining the correct GST treatment of your goods is your responsibility as importer of record. Confirm it with a licensed customs broker. Before acting on any result, consult a licensed customs broker or qualified trade attorney about your specific goods.
